What is it a SLS printer?
SLS printing, which stands for Selective Laser Sintering, is a 3D printing process that uses a powerful laser to fuse (or sinter) powder layer by layer. SLS printers are used for strong, industrial parts without the need for tooling costs like some traditional manufacturing.
One other benefit of SLS printers is that supports are not needed, allowing for complex geometries to be printed.
How much does a SLS printer cost?
SLS 3D printers can range from $20 000 for cheap DIY solutions, through to $500 000 for the most expensive machines.
A good budget is around $70 000 - $90 000. For this price range, you can expect a reliable, commercial grade SLS printer for prototyping and end-use parts.
Which is better, SLS or SLA?
Both SLS and SLA have positives and negatives. Between the two technologies, SLS is considered the better choice for both prototyping and batch production. This is, at least partly, because of the mechanical properties achievable by SLS printers.
Although SLA printing has a great surface finish, parts can be less UV resistant and are prone to becoming brittle when used outside. It is always a good idea to contact our team to determine the best 3D printer for your use-case.
What are the disadvantages of SLS printing?
Although SLS printing has a large number of benefits, the main downside is the surface finish and texture. By default, many SLS prints have a grainy or powder-like surface finish due to the way SLS printers work.
Some solutions exist to help this, including media blasting the parts with a polishing agent to achieve a semi-gloss finish.
Fuse 1+ 30W Accessories
Stock up on accessories to ensure printing uptime and increase your throughput.
Fuse 1+ 30W Build Chamber 230V
Reduce downtime by transferring modular build chambers and powder cartridges between the Fuse 1+ 30W and Fuse Sift for a nonstop, cyclical workflow.
Each Fuse 1+ 30W includes one build chamber, compatible with the Fuse 1, Fuse 1+ 30W and Fuse Sift. Keeping an extra build chamber in your toolkit allows you to run a new print as soon as a previous job is completed.
Fuse 1+ 30W Printer Stand
This steel stand raises the Fuse 1 or Fuse 1+ 30W to an ergonomic height.
Industrial Vacuum 230V
The Fuse Sift powder recovery station incorporates an external vacuum, sold separately, to help you efficiently, safely maintain a clean workspace.
Due to potential hazards associated with powders, a static dissipative vacuum that is NFPA 652 compliant is required. This Class II Division 2 vacuum fulfills all safety requirements for the Fuse Sift.
Fuse 1 Powder Cartridge
Reduce downtime by transferring modular powder cartridges and build chambers between the Fuse 1+ 30W and Fuse Sift for a nonstop, cyclical workflow.
Use the powder cartridge to load material dispensed from the Fuse Sift into the Fuse 1+ 30W hopper. The powder cartridge is also used as a mixing vessel when combining fresh and used powder.
Fuse 1+ 30W Replacement Exhaust Air Filter
The Fuse 1+ 30W uses an exhaust filter to remove sintering byproducts from its exhaust.
Fuse 1+ 30W Replacement Intake Air Filter
The Fuse 1+ 30W uses an intake filter to remove potential contaminants from air being drawn into the printer.
Fuse 1+ 30W Optical Cassette
All SLS printers require operators to clean the optics before every print, which often involves disassembling complex systems. The Fuse 1+ 30W protects its optics with an optical cassette designed for tool-free removal and installation.
Each Fuse 1+ 30W includes two optical cassettes, so you can seamlessly swap a used cassette out for a clean one to quickly start another print.
Fuse Sift 150 Sieve
During part extraction on the Fuse Sift, unsintered powder is dislodged and funneled into the sifter below the workspace. This sieve filters out any small chunks or debris to keep the powder clean. The reclaimed powder can then be stored in a dedicated hopper until mixing with fresh powder for the next print.
Fuse Sift HEPA Air Filter
A HEPA filter is used in conjunction with the Fuse Sift air handling system to filter out powder and maintain negative pressure under the hood.
